Hotel Khamvongsa: Charming with a Classic Indochine Style (Laos)

After 11 hours of overnight sleeper train from Bangkok to Nong Khai, then we took a shuttle train service from Nong Khai to Thanaleng by crossing the Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge; and from the Thanaleng train station, we took a shared minivan and we finally arrived in the city centre of Vientiane, Laos. Although it may seem like a hassle, the whole journey was pretty straight forward, comfortable and enjoyable one. I am glad that we chose this option to get from Thailand to Laos.

Vientiane is the capital and the biggest city of Laos, hence trying to get a good accommodation is not an issue. With so many hotels and guest houses available, we had filtered and decided to stay 1 night in this charming mid-range hotel, Hotel Khamvongsa.

Hotel Khamvongsa is a comfy and stylish hotel run by a Lao family. The hotel started off humbly as a guest house in the early 90s; and in the late 2000s, the guest house had been upgraded into a charming hotel with an old Indochine style. We totally fell in love with the elegant interior of the hotel with French colonial Lao style decorations, especially the bold classic black and white flooring. Stepping into Hotel Khamvongsa seems like stepping into another world surrounded by timeless beauty.

Room & Services
We stayed in a double room, which is well-furnished with a window and a very comfortable king size bed. The room is also equipped with air conditioning and high ceiling fan, as well as en-suite bathroom, a classic sofa bed, a mini fridge bar, TV, writing desk, telephone and safe box to store valuable items. Our stay includes a complimentary breakfast that comes with 6 choices; the delicious breakfast was made from fresh ingredients produced locally in Laos. The hotel also offers free WIFI in the room and the common areas; they also provide daily laundry service at a reasonable price and arranging of transportation. The overall service was good, and the staffs were very attentive and friendly during our stay.

Location
Hotel Khamvongsa is situated on the west side of the central Vientiane along Khun Bu Lom street. The hotel is just a short walk from the Mekong river and other Vientiane landmarks; the Wat Inpeng temple is directly opposite the hotel, the bank is just a few steps away and there are no shortage of restaurants in the area.
