Sinchang Toast: The Best Breakfast in Busan, South Korea

Have you ever wondered what do the Koreans eat for Breakfast? The regular Korean breakfast is small dishes of food served along with rice and soup. Besides that, toast is also a very common breakfast food in Korea and this Korean sandwich is sold by the street vendors almost everywhere in Korea. In this post, we will share with you our best breakfast in Busan.

Sinchang Toast is a specialty shop that sells traditional toast and juice for more than a decade. This humble little shop is located in the heart of Gukje Market (국제시장) in Sinchang-dong, Busan. Getting to Sinchang Toast is not that straight forward for the first time, because it is tucked in the intricate alleys crowded with many small shops. You may like to visit this place early in the morning before the rest of the shops are open.

Sinchang Toast is very popular, especially for the tourists and also loved by the residents of the market. As we can see from the shop's signage, the shop name is written in Korean, Japanese and Chinese. During our visit, we noticed that most of the visitors were from Japan and Korea, and we also saw some Taiwanese as well. With the international crowd, it absolutely portrays the characteristics of Gukje Market also known as International Market.

The Shop
Sinchang Toast is a small rustic shop that has a narrow space with counter seating on both sides. We love how the interior setting brings out a nostalgic and pleasing atmosphere. Never mind about the limited seating, the fairly quick service by the owners ensure the line is cleared in a pretty fast pace.

Special Toast
The special toast contains ham, cheese and egg with some special sauces. The buttered toast was well done to golden brown color with a slight crispness on the outer layer and the omelette inside was fluffy in texture; also every bite was very juicy. This piping hot and mouthwatering toast is certainly an ideal breakfast food to fill your empty stomach in the morning.

Warm Soy Milk
To have a complete perfect meal, you have to order the warm soy milk to go along with the toast; this is highly recommended! The warm soy milk is mildly sweet with a nice thick and creamy feel. The soy milk also contains small pieces of grain, which seems like a type of dough to me; anyway it is a bit savory in taste and the texture is quite chewy.

We saw most of the visitors there ordered toast with fruit juice, but for us both our visits, we ordered toast with warm soy milk. The warm soy milk is way above our expectations and we simply got carried away by the luscious taste, hence we neglected the fruit juice.

Sinchang Toast offers one of the best foods that we had eaten in Busan. After our first visit, we went back again for the second time and finally we confirmed becoming the fans of Sinchang Toast! Not only the taste of the heartwarming toast and soy milk are delicious, the price is also very reasonable. Above all, it is the personality of the Sinchang Toast uncle that amazed us tremendously; he is very friendly and always with a warm welcoming smile to shine your day. We believe all these factors are the secret of his growing popularity over these decades.

"As long as you make delicious food, customers will come all the way for you, and you just have to continue to make delicious food every day"
